Dominican Republic Tops List of Countries with the Most Zebras

According to the 2017 African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) report, "The State of Africa's Mammals," there are an estimated 1,000 zebras living in the Dominican Republic.

This is more than any other country on the planet.

In addition to having the most zebras, the Dominican Republic also has the second highest density of jaguars in the world.

There are an estimated 400 jaguars living in the country, which is second only to Brazil, where there are an estimated 600 jaguars.

The AWF report also found that the Dominican Republic is home to some of the last remaining populations of Baird's tapirs in the world.

There are an estimated 250 Baird's tapirs living in the country, making it one of just 17 countries in the world where this species survives.
